Bullying of any sort is NOT tolerated at South Westland Area School.
If a young person in your care indicates that they feel uncomfortable at school or if any of the possible indicators listed below begin to occur then it is important for the school to be notified as soon as possible so that they may investigate to see if bullying is a causal factor and if so, to alleviate it.
· Is afraid when travelling to or from school
· Is reluctant to go to school
· Doesn't want to travel on the school bus
· Appears to change from usual routine
· Starts to become truant from school
· Doesn’t want to participate in school trips or activities
· Seems to be withdrawn, anxious or lacking confidence
· Starts to stammer
· Runs away, threatens or attempts suicide
· Has nightmares or cries in bed
· Begins to underachieve at school
· Complains of illness before school
· Comes home with clothes torn or possessions damaged, graffiti on books etc
· Asks for or starts stealing money
· Frequently ‘loses’ money
· Has unexplained injuries
· Comes home hungry even though their lunch appears to have been eaten
· Shows signs of aggression or disruption out of character
· Is bullying their sibling(s)
· Is afraid or reluctant to admit what is wrong
· Gives unlikely excuses for any of the above
· Is afraid to use the internet or mobile phone
· Appears nervous or anxious when a cyber message is received
